Electronic Poker is a popular game that can be gambled on in casinos all over the world, or alternatively at home on your home computer, through a web account. The game rules are very simple and involve the player attempting to achieve the best combination of cards achievable in order to win cash. In this respect it is very similar as a normal game of poker, without the line of contact with any other players. Of course, techniques used in a physical game of poker, like tricking, will be useless in Video Poker.

The game of Video Poker begins when the bettor puts credits (whether it’s tokens, credit slips or cash) into the machine and presses the deal button. A hand of five cards will be "dealt" on the screen.

The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ printed on them, and players should now decide which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the gambler wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can decide to keep any number of cards they want, from all to none.

After the enthusiast has decided on which cards he or she would like to retain, the player will then press ‘draw’, at which point any fresh cards are given out if desired. The hand is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it matches any of the winning hands printed on the pay out schedule.

Typically, the lowest winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money growing for each and every better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, moving on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It definitely goes without saying that the payout schedule can vary from game to game, so that experienced gamblers are able to select the most profitable machine each instance.

Once the initial round has completed, the player can either decide to continue on and try to to increase their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any money that might have been won. Additionally, some versions of the game allow the gambler a chance to increase their profits, in which case a further hand is played. There are also variations between individual games, with some virtual decks including wild cards and other varying characteristics to enhance playability.
