Video Poker is a popular game that usually will be gambled on in casinos around the world, or in your house on your personal computer, using a web account. The game rules are absolutely straightforward and involve the player trying to achieve the greatest mixture of cards achievable in order to acquire cash. In this respect it is very similar as a regular game of poker, minus the line of contact with any other players. Of course, tactics used in a real-life game of poker, such as bluffing, will be irrelevant here.

The game of Video Poker starts when the bettor puts credits (either tokens, tickets or cash) into the video poker machine and presses the play button. A hand of 5 cards will then be "distributed" on the screen.

The Video Poker game also has buttons with ‘hold’ written on them, and gamblers should now decide which cards to hold and which to throw away. For the cards the player would like to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons should be pressed so that they light up. The player can decide to keep any amount of cards they wish, whether it’s all or none.

After the player has chosen which cards he or she would like to keep, the player will then press ‘draw’, at which point any fresh cards will be handed out if desired. The game is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine analyzing the cards to see if it matches any of the winning hands shown on the payout schedule.

Typically, the lowest winning hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money getting larger for each better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It is obvious that the payout schedule can change from machine to machine, so that experienced gamblers are agile enough to pick the most beneficial ones every time.

After the first round has completed, the player can either choose to stay on in an attempt to increase their earnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any money that they may have won. Additionally, some versions of the game give the enthusiast a chance to increase their profits, in which instance a further round is played. There are also variations among specific games, with some virtual decks including wild cards and other varying aspects to enhance playability.
